Ultra Sponsors NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair at Dalhousie University

DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA — (Marketwired) — 07/24/13 — Ultra Electronics Maritime Systems Inc. (UEMS) (LSE: ULE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christian Schlegel as the NSERC / Ultra Chair in Wireless Information Transmission and Networking at Dalhousie University Department of Electrical Engineering. This Senior Industrial Research Chair (IRC) is awarded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Dr. Schlegel-s research objectives focus on wireless digital communications technologies. He explains, „The research focuses on communicating digital data across challenging and difficult to use communication channels, such as those that arise in underwater acoustic systems, wireless radio networks employed by cellular systems, and magneto- inductive communication modems designed to penetrate solid ground.“

ABOUT CHRISTIAN SCHLEGEL

Christian Schlegel received the Dipl. El. Ing. ETH degree from the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Notre Dame in 1986 and 1989, respectively. Dr. Schlegel has published 3 books and over 60 journal papers. His work with industry yielded eight patents in spread spectrum communication, error control coding, and digital and analog implementations. Dr. Schlegel received a US National Science Foundation Career Award in 1997, a Canada Research Chair in 2001, and a Province of Alberta iCORE Chair in 2001 and 2006. He was named IEEE Distinguished Lecturer in 2001 and 2007, and is an IEEE Fellow.
