The challenge is to offer technological innovations on the global market

The energy mix of the future: do you dare make a prognosis?
Lankes: More environmentally friendly energy, less
exploitation of scarce resources. But it will be difficult to get there: environmentally friendly cars drive cost more than conventional ones, the same goes for clean energy for households and industry. The important thing is to develop suitable technologies for tomorrow today, and in this area, our group is certainly leading.

Germany in 2020: How will people’s everyday lives have changed because of the changing energy industry? Which fuel will people be using? How will they be heating their homes? How will they produce light? Show me a scenario …
Lankes: 2020 is so close to the present that the energy
industry will not have changed much. The largest effect will probably come from those concepts in building technology that combine better insulation, photovoltaics and heat pumps to achieve important savings. As for cars, which typically have a development cycle of four to six years to launch a new technology, the switch to energy- efficient technologies is still in transition. Wind energy, however, which already accounts for six percent of energy supply in Germany, will double its share: that’s about 149

TWh (terawatt hours) from wind farms in Germany (up from 60 TWh in 2011). We also expect an increase in the use of natural gas turbines, which are being built more and more with Ipsen’s technology all over the world. This technology will be necessary, not least in order to fill the current gap in quickly available energy caused by Ger- many’s rapid withdrawal from nuclear energy.
