TextKey Scores Well in Network World Review of Authentication Solutions

Mai 31 10:00 2013

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/31/13 — TextPower-s TextKey SMS-based two-factor authentication solution was one of eight products featured in a comprehensive review of authentication solutions in Network World Magazine last week. The product scored very well against more established products from much larger companies and TextKey was called „ironclad protection on a budget.“

TextPower-s TextKey was compared to offerings from Celestix-s HOTPin, Microsoft-s PhoneFactor, RSA-s Authentication Manager, SafeNet Authentication Service, SecureAuth-s IdP, Symantec Validation and ID Protection Service (VIP), and Vasco-s Identikey Authentication Server. Several other authentication products didn-t meet the review-s criteria and other vendors declined to participate. While it is unusual to include a recently-introduced product in a comparison with such established players Network World said they „wanted to include TextPower in this review because of a very innovative method of handling the second factor authentication.“

„We are flattered to have been included with the established leaders of the website security business in the recent Network World analysis of two-factor authentication providers,“ said Scott Goldman, CEO of TextPower, Inc. „Our patent-pending TextKey technology turns common authentication methods upside-down by requiring a user to send a text from their phone into our secure system,“ he continued. „That must be why the article called TextKey -ironclad protection on a budget- and a -very innovative method.-„

The entire system is cloud-based and doesn-t require any additional servers, appliances, outsourcing, software or remote hosting. As a result, any enterprise interested in protecting its web site from hackers, thieves or discontented employees can now provide more secure authentication than even the largest companies that use complex and expensive security key fob systems — and at a fraction of the expense.

With TextKey, users avoid man-in-the-middle attacks because there isn-t anything between the user and the login server. TextKey captures the originating phone number, records the text message received, and analyzes the text to make sure it was generated by the phone associated with the particular User ID before authenticating access to a network. Unless the correct code is sent from that specific cell phone, entry to the web site is blocked. Cloned cell phones or spoofing techniques will not fool the system. In addition, if the code is sent from an unauthorized phone, TextKey records the phone number, which can then be used to pursue and prosecute the intruder.

TextKey was developed as a way to provide any size business with a highly secure and easy-to-implement web site security process that is simple to use. TextKey replaces security fobs, tokens, USB keys and smart cards by using the cell phone that every business user is already carrying; every cell phone in the world has a unique device identifier making it the equivalent of a fingerprint when sending a message.
