Precise plasma cutting for highest standards

For almost one year now, one of the world-s largest shipyards has been cutting the steel for its naval vessels and luxury yachts with two CNC plasma cutting systems of MicroStep Group. Fr. Lürssen Werft GmbH & Co. KG, whose founder Friedrich Lürssen said „My company will be known as the number one, both in quality and in the performance of the product“ almost 135 years ago, has deliberately opted for the innovative machines of the MicroStep Group.

For more than 135 years, ships have been built for national and international customers in the docks of Lürssen. Naval vessels and big yachts are launched from the different locations, with a length between 60 m and more than 150 m. Power can reach up to 30.000 kW, depending on size and speed. Maximum speed tops out at over 50 knots. To reach these high demands on a constructional level, the best know-how in cutting the complex components is required.

The aim was to increase production and efficiency significantly through new machines. After several talks with the dock and an extensive project planning in advance, the way was paved for two machines of MicroStep: one CNC plasma cutting machine PLS – PrI with 28.5 m x 3.5 m and one OxyCut PAI with 12 m x 3 m working surface. The plasma sources for both machines were provided by MicroStep partner Kjellberg, the filtration system by Donaldson.

The whole concept is perfected by the first-class service of MicroStep Europa GmbH, which supports its customers with its comprehensive expertise. Lürssen as one of the leading docks worldwide has therefore a strong partner to set the sails for the future.
