New MOSTCO Administrator

April 26 21:30 2013

Rainer Klos of Microchip Technology has been appointed new Administrator of the MOST(R) Cooperation (MOSTCO) – the standardization organization for the leading automotive multimedia network Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST). The MOST Cooperation sincerely thanks his predecessor Dr. Christian Thiel who was one of the earliest developers of MOST, and significantly advanced the technology during his 8 years as Administrator. During his term, the second and third MOST generations were rolled out. He worked on developing the first vehicle that in 2001 came out with MOST. Now, there are 140 vehicle models on the road with three generations of the technology.

In his new role, Rainer Klos will be closely involved in leading MOST Technology beyond its current third generation MOST150, based on the Specification Rev. 3.0, into the future. „I feel very privileged to become a substantial part in developing the upcoming automotive network that will unite infotainment and driver assist functions in one network,“ stated Rainer Klos. „The automotive network of the future requires a powerful and scalable multiplex architecture with free topology configuration. MOST Technology fulfills these requirements and is therefore best primed for the future. Thanks to the multiplex architecture with powerful interfaces, multiprotocol channels, synchronicity and low latency of the network, the extendable MOST architecture is ready for the coming needs of the automotive data network.“ The administrator is responsible for the execution and organization of decisions made by the Steering Committee.

Engrained in the MOST World

Rainer Klos is a veteran of MOST Technology, having essentially participated in the work on this leading automotive network standard from the very beginning. He has always been involved in automotive infotainment following his Engineering Diploma from the Trier University of Applied Science. His career started out at HARMAN. Later he co-founded Oasis SiliconSystems where MOST originated. Since 1995, Rainer Klos has been responsible for the development of network standards, ICs, software and tools for MOST. He has been Vice President of Engineering at SMSC, and with the acquisition by Microchip Technology he has become Director Engineering of Microchip Technology Germany.
