The phospholene oxide-based catalysts are distinctive regarding their reactivity and selectivity. They can be used to produce ultra high-purity carbodiimides for instance. The catalysts have been pre-registered in accordance with the new chemicals regulation and are produced on a 100-kilogram scale.
Catalysts lower the activation energy of chemical reactions by enhancing lower-energy transition states. They affect a reaction without changing its chemical equilibrium. Since catalysts do not undergo any permanent chemical changes during a reaction, only very small quantities need to be used. By changing the reaction conditions catalysts have a major effect on the rate of a chemical reaction.
“For us these new products represent a further milestone in the development of new additive systems,” says Dr. Volker Schäfer, managing director of Schäfer Additivsysteme GmbH.
