ALEXANDRIA, VA — (Marketwire) — 10/20/11 — ., the manufacturer of high-performance cements for durable in extreme conditions, has released test results that show cement withstands acid attack. The results support what 11 major companies already know: concrete made with KEMROK is much more durable in their production facilities. KEMROK sharply cuts maintenance costs and product downtime. The higher resistance also means a longer product lifecycle resulting in a much better return on investment.
In tests, technicians submerged samples of concrete, one made with portland and one with KEMROK cement, in an acid solution. They did this with sulphuric, phosphoric, acetic, and hydrochloric acid per ASTM C-267 guidelines.
After 84 days of exposure to 93% sulphuric acid, the concrete tested with portland cement had lost over 4% of its mass and 18% of its compressive strength. The concrete with KEMROK performed much better with just over 1% of mass loss and 5% of its strength. Just as important, the portland cement concrete continued deteriorating steadily, while the deterioration to concrete made with KEMROK virtually stopped after one month. Sulphuric acid is key for petrochemical producers, since concrete is routinely exposed to it in processing plants. Tests with the other acids also demonstrated significantly better durability with KEMROK.
