Climate change, environmental damage, the vulnerable biodiversity of the blue planet, the protection of ecosystems, clean energy sources and cities that are good places to live – according to the Californian boss of the world’s largest GIS software developer, ESRI, all of these issues will be covered by GIS applications. In their interviews for INTERGEO TV, Dangermond and DVW president Professor Karl-Friedrich Thöne appealed: “GIS is essential to the future of the Earth and to overcoming the present problems.” Dangermond also outlined how GIS is currently filtering down from experts towards the broader public. “The Internet is making GIS accessible to everyone. And this trend is being boosted by smartphones and tablet PCs.” The interviews with Jack Dangermond and Professor Karl-Friedrich Thöne are online at www.intergeo.de.
