Jena, – April 2010: From April 13th to 15th, asphericon was host of the Standard Committee Conference NA027 “Precision Mechanics and Optics”. In the three workshops entitled “Measuring Systems for Optics”, “Drafting for Optics”, as well as “Free Form Surfaces” important tasks for future standards were solved using the German DIN-standard. Sven R. Kiontke, manager of the asphericon GmbH, member of the Standards Committee and at the same time host of the conference said: “The work of these workshops should not be underestimated, since the members are actively and proactively working on the ISO level and, therefore, will take part in the decisions of the future worldwide standards. The coordinating ISO-Secretary is also managed by the DIN group. Particularly in the subject of tolerance of free form surfaces, concrete results were delivered. Additionally, spokesmen from the most important German optical companies are represented in these committees, which also resulted in interesting conversations during the informal dinners.“

The Management took special interest in the new manufacturing equipment of asphericon GmbH that just went into production during the last few weeks. In 2009, approximately 2.5 Million Euros was invested in the areas of ultra precision and surface treatment capable of processing and coating free form surfaces including measurement technique. Surface accuracy in the area of aspherical lenses smaller than 10nm RMS based on the asphericon ION-finish and full surface interferometric measurement illustrates here the worldwide best-in-class.
