The EtherCAN is a gateway with an ARM processor that controls the data transfer between CAN and Ethernet. The module is designed for hat-rail mounting in a control enclosure. The connectors and status LEDs are mounted in the front panel.
The Ethernet interface is designed for 10 or 100 MBit/s networks. It is accessible via an RJ45 connector on the front panel.
The CAN interface is based on a SJA1000 CAN controller. The interface is designed according to ISO 11898 with electrical isolation and a 5 pole Combicon-style connector. It allows data transfer rates of 1 Mbit/s.
The complete firmware for the data transfer is stored in the onboard Flash. In addition software drivers are available for Windows XP/Vista and Linux. The monitor program CANreal is in the scope of delivery. Drivers, based on a low level socket library (ELLSI), for other operating systems can be delivered as well.
For an easy connection of the CANbus to SIMATIC S7-PLCs a demonstration program is on-hand.
Software packages for CANopen are available for Windows XP/Vista or UNIX-systems.
