Balingen/Düsseldorf, 20th April 2011 – In times of climate change and environmental and resource protection, the issue of „sustainable production and packaging concepts“ in industry and trade is paid greater attention than ever. Hence, Bizerba presents new labelling systems on Interpack 2011 which are very economical and environmentally friendly at the same time, and which can be combined with check weigher and inspection systems to form customised system solutions (hall 14, stand C14).
GLP-linerless label printer
The manual GLP printer is also available in linerless design: the labels are not supplied from carrier tapes but from rolls where they stick to the label surface of the previous rotation. This means a higher quantity of labels per roll, longer operating times with less roll changes, hence more environmental protection because waste from carrier material is avoided. Moreover, the printer does not waste material as the labels are cut to different lengths according to each product and adjusted to the exact space required for logo, barcode and text.
„The linerless technology is very resource-friendly, and will be an important part of sustainable product packaging in future,“ explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solutions at Bizerba, and continues with a sample calculation: „Let-s assume that a manufacturer must change label rolls around 1750 time per year. With linerless rolls with an additional label capacity of 40%, only 1050 changes are necessary. This saves 18 hours of changeover time and more than 700 kilograms of waste from carrier tape.“
Environmental protection due to less wearing parts: the EcoMotion printer
The new technology of thermal direct printing improves the operating life of the thermal element. The thermal element is lifted at the sections of the label with no imprint.
Due to reduced abrasion, spare part and maintenance costs are reduced, and the environment is protected due to less disposed wearing parts. The EcoMotion printer is used for the blow and plunger applicators of GLM-I and GLM-L labellers.
New GLM-B generation box labeller with front-side applicator
GLM-B generation box labellers are used in production, warehouse and distribution logistics. The new 350/700 versions are equipped with applicators with a vertical travel of 350 and 700 millimetres, respectively. They can label 45 packages of different size per minute from above and from the sides. Various support racks allow for flexible labelling. As the label rolls have a comparatively large diameter of 300 millimetres, less roll change is required. The box labeller can optionally be controlled with internal or external operating terminals.
The newly developed applicator which functions like a swinging arm now even allows for labelling on the front side (GLM-B 150 F). „According to the Bizerba system policy, the box labeller is used as a total printer in fully automatic check weighers and price labelling lines. To this end, the labeller is connected downstream of the GLM-I labeller or the CWE check weigher,“ Conzelmann continues. The box labeller also has a high level of integrated intelligence to store the data of items, texts and layouts, and to assume checking and activation tasks in combination with external reading devices. Due to a new function, operators can now connect the GLM-B with their EDP system via the WS-FOOD interface (a new standard for operational data collection) applying the plug-and-play principle.
GLM-E 20/30 allows for the first step towards automatic price labelling
The new models of the GLM-E series form the first step for manufacturers and distributors towards automatic price labelling. The machines weigh and label up to 35 packages per minute in start/stop operation. They can be applied as standalone devices, or connected downstream of stretch film packaging machines.
Moreover, the devices are equipped with remote monitoring so that service technicians have access to the system via the e-service on the internet and can solve problems in real-time – without costly on-site visits required. If used as automatic labeller, the labelling capacity is up to 70 packages per minute. GLM-E 20/30 devices are used in the meat and sausage industry, the fruit and vegetable sector, for the manufacturing of convenience products, and in trade.
Fully automatic labelling of pallets and beverage crates
GLM-P 2S with integrated weigher allows for the fully automatic labelling of pallets or beverage crates on up to three sides and up to three extents. The labelling of pallets on three sides ensures that the information can be read even if the pallet is not moved or stored in the correct direction. Data are applied to the pallet in the form of GS1- or EPC- globally-conform transport labels in sizes of up to A5. This ensures the traceability of food. The GLM-P 2S achieves a labelling capacity of 300 pallets per hour.
