Jena, – June 2010: At the IQ Innovation Prize presentation, asphericon GmbH has been awarded the special prize of the City of Jena. The company received the local prize for an innovative technique for high-precision processing of aspherical surfaces.

„It is a great honor to receive the innovation prize of the City of Jena and it confirms our innovative approach of recent months and years. At the same time, our joint development work with our partner Roth&Rau MicroSystems GmbH receives the attention it deserves. The new ION-Finish technology offers asphericon GmbH new marketing opportunities, in order to further strengthen its own market position“, according to Sven R. Kiontke, Technical Director of asphericon GmbH.

asphericon ION-Finish is the first solution for ion-based processing of complex curved surfaces in optical components. It allows contour-errors to be corrected in a highly time-efficient manner and with optimum precision that exceeds current international standards. Unlike existing technology, this process can be applied to a wide variety of shapes and materials. What-s more, it employs contactless surface processing and leaves no unnecessary processing residues. „The new process combines plant-specific innovations with a sophisticated process flow. Our customers benefit first and foremost from excellent machining accuracy. In addition, costs have been kept to a similar level as traditional technologies,“ explains Sven R. Kiontke.

The IQ Innovation Prize Jena is awarded annually by the City of Jena as part of the award ceremony for the IQ Innovation Prize Central Germany. This year, a total of 126 applications for the sought-after innovation prizes have been received by the business initiative of Central Germany.
