The all-round label for retailers: informs, seals and protects

All possible details can be displayed on only one label, enclosing the product from up to four sides. Thus, the packaging becomes more stable and the product contents are also protected from illegal repackaging. Labelling mistakes are prevented and the number of roll changes is reduced. With the suitable software, users can select the position of the details themselves enabling customers to instantly recognise important information without having to remove the packaging from the shelf.
Usually packaging is labelled on top, on the bottom and on the sides with different price, information and ornamental labels. An alternative procedure, the so-called C-Wrap labelling, allows for the depiction of all contents on only one label enclosing the product on three sides, thereby forming a “C”. As “Fullwrap” the label can enclose up to four sides.
This procedure offers the user a number of advantages, as Marc Büttgenbach, the Sales Manager of Labels and Consumables at Bizerba, explains: “A labelling process with several labels requires several roll changes. What is more, mistakes can creep in, if not all labels are changed together with the different products. Then, for example, Salami packaging could be wrongly applied with the bottom label of ham. By depicting all product information on only one label such labelling errors can be prevented and the number of roll changes reduced.” The label also helps to safely seal product packaging, increase stability and it contributes to anti-theft protection. “Particularly exclusive foodstuffs, from the Argentinean steak to a high-quality chocolate are thus protected from illegal repackaging” Büttgenbach remarks. But the label is also ideal for convenience food. Instant meals or salads can be attractively packaged and then stabilised and sealed by the label. The consumer will be able to see the date of production, the contents and the price at a single glance.

In order to meet the increasing demand on the market, Bizerba has developed a corresponding application procedure permitting the industrial use of the C-Wrap labels in the GLM-I range of labelling machines. At first the packaging is dynamically weighed. Then the product data is prepared and printed on the label. The C-Wrap applicator thereby transports the label vertically downwards. The label hangs through an opening in the conveyor belt and is picked up by the packaging when it passes the opening.

„With the Bizerba Label Designer users can create individual layouts deciding for themselves where the product information should be placed on the label,” Büttgenbach explains. Because of this, the end consumer can instantly recognise important information, such as allergy advice, at first glance without having to remove the packaging from the shelf. The labels can be printed by thermal transfer or by thermal direct printing and can be varied with regard to length and colour. Customers can select one basic layout with which they can label all products in various ways. All product-specific data is printed on the label afterwards, during the production process.

All laminates used are produced by Bizerba Labels and Consumables. They are available both as normal labels and as Linerless labels. Linerless labels can be processed with all machines that are currently established on the market. The labels can be delivered by Bizerba’s logistics department either completely blank or with the whole surface already printed.
